Wood treatment

  • The first coat should be applied by cloth or brush to all sides.
  • Two coats need to be applied to the work surfaces both bottom and top.
  • The end-grain needs to be sealed with at least 4 coats as they absorb the most moisture. This also applies to tap holes, sink cut-outs, and areas that have heavy use or exposure.
  • After approximately two hours apply a second even coat over the top using a roller. This will be dry in approximately 4-6 hours.
  • Worktop can be used with care after a further 6 hours. It is fully cured within 24 hours.

Common sense care of your oak work top

Treatex hard wax oil provides a very durable surface against most household substances. To keep it looking its best we recommend the following.

  • Simply wipe with a damp cloth to remove any stains. Never use harsh abrasive cleaners.
  • Protect against objects with sharp or rough surfaces. (Bottom of tea pots etc).
  • Washing up liquid containers should not be stored directly on the work top but placed on a tile or something similar.
  • Scratches can be removed simply by wiping affected area with a small amount of Hard wax oil on a cloth or paper towel. Remove excess straight away from surrounding surface.

Repairing the finish

  • Sand down damaged areas with 150 grit sandpaper following the grain of the wood.
  • Then sand down with sandpaper of up to 280 grit.
  • Then apply as mentioned earlier.
